Checking Our Progress

Last week during our obedience class, Tanner and I did a run through of a Beginner Novice routine.  The purpose was to see how well Tanner would work through an entire routine with no primary reinforcement.  We videoed the exercise for later analysis.

I can see that I need to remember to ease into the changes of pace (rather than taking off like a rocket).  I also need to plan my figure 8 better.  You can see that Tanner does not respond to my first recall cue.  Another place for more work.

All in all, I am quite proud of my boy.  I love his attitude and beautiful heeling. He doesn't fade during the routine and seems nonplussed by the lack of primary reinforcement.  Once we were done, we ran over to the side of the ring where I had hidden a jackpot of treats.

Tanner videos from March 19 2009

Tanner and Ember are still working out their relationship. In this short video, Tanner has become a victim of a common kitty game. I make Shine stay out of it so that Tanner can work it out for himself.



In this second video, Tanner and Shine play in the back yard. This is towards the end of their play session so is a bit mellow.

This is our whole unedited training session. You can see him get distracted by the cat and then turn his attention back to me. We did a couple of downs but they were not as snazzy as I like so we moved back to things he was doing well. He is only 13 weeks old and I think he is doing really well!

Echo is learning to track. Here is a video of her second time out.



Echo is also working on some basic obedience work using a clicker. You can see her in action in this video clip.

Tanner Videos

Tanner uploaded a few new videos to Youtube. He is learning some important skills.

One of the things he is learning is to target and put his head through his show lead. This same skill will apply for putting a collar on etc.



The other video that was recently uploaded is a video of Tanner learning "touch" and "leave it" and learning to discriminate between the two cues.
